About Us

THIS IS OUR WHY

The question: Why Yoga Nook Northside? The answer: To bring together, celebrate, and nurture our Northside community and allow ALL students to experience yoga in the unique way it shows up to them. We lived in Orange Park from 2011-2016. Both Shane and I were in the Navy back then so living close to NAS Jacksonville was perfect. However, like many who live in Jacksonville, the only time we came to the Northside was to go to the airport. When we moved back to Florida in June of 2019, we wanted to be somewhere less close to the center of it all. I was retired and a yoga teacher and musician and Shane retires early 2023 and he didn’t mind the drive to NAS. As I started exploring the wonderful Jacksonville yoga studio’s I realized there wasn’t anything close to Northside. I put out some “would you be interested” emails to communities in Northside and the response was overwhelming! “We’ve been waiting for this.” “I’ve wanted to try yoga but the drive is just too far.” In February 2020 we opened our sweet Yoga Nook Northside. It thrived, we created a commUNITY, and offered students a safe place to explore yoga. Sadly, we closed the physical Nook studio in June 2022. Like the saying, when one door closed another opened!!! We were offered space to continue our mission up the road at Pecan Park RV Resort and we are excited to continue growing our sweet Nook community!! We now are able to offer more services to include private/group sessions and make them extra special for YOU. We are all for uniting our Northside community and sharing the gifts of yoga, self-care, love, and celebration for one another. VINYASA FLOW

This class warms and strengthens our mind/body connection through uniting our breath with our movements. We will explore proper body alignment as it pertains uniquely to YOUR body while cleansing the body with our breath. The practice includes standing, balancing, mild twisting and soft back-bending type postures. *Prenatal friendly*

Power.JPG

POWER FLOW

This class is a Baptiste-inspired power flow class where you will align with your inner fire! The class is a combination of dynamic movements to connect you to your body and balancing, much slower postures to connect you to your true way of being. Some Vinyasa Flow experience is helpful but not a requirement for this class as many options and modifications are available for each and every pose.

Restorative - Legs up wall.jpg

RESTORATIVE

This class is a soothing series of supportive postures where we use props, such as pillows and blankets, to allow the body to rest, renew, and heal. We gently allow the muscles in our body to soften taking us from being in our sympathetic nervous system (“fight or flight”) to our parasympathetic nervous system (“rest and digest”). This practice promotes balance, ease, and is a class great for all yogis. *Prenatal friendly*

YOGA NIDRA

Yoga Nidra is a powerful, non-movement meditation practice that has shown to help counteract the effects of trauma, PTSD, sleep disorders, anxiety, stress, depression, pain and so many more ailments.  Our minds and bodies seem to be stuck in overdrive and in the doing and going.  Yoga Nidra allows us to release the gas pedal and slow things down.  The practice takes us into deep rest, often times referred to as “yogic sleep”.  You do not need a yoga mat or yoga clothes for this practice.  Get as comfortable as you can, lay back, and rest your body and mind.
*Prenatal friendly*

ROLL FOR RELIEF

This class is a full-body incorporation of myofascial/trigger point techniques to release tension in the deep layers of the fascia allowing the body to have better hydration, circulation, less pain, and so much more! This class is for you if you experience any type of pain in the body, have been diagnosed with an injury, muscle tightness, feel stiffness anywhere in the body, are recovering from a surgery, and/or just want a healthy alternative to keeping the body hydrated and a non-invasive pain relief alternative.

CHAIR YOGA

This is a gentle, non-weight bearing class perfect for those with some physical limitations, recovering from injuries or any yogi looking to explore a different style of yoga. We explore a variety of mostly seated postures using the chair as support while incorporating breathing techniques and deep relaxation. Great for the joints, flexibility, and mobility. *Prenatal friendly*

GRIEF YOGA: TRANSFORM YOUR PAIN

Grief and pain can put us at a place of disconnection with our bodies, emotional self, and others, often times, without us even knowing it. In this class we will create a safe space to use movement, breath, and sound as well as our pain as fuel to create more space for love, connection, and empowerment! This event is for you if you’ve experienced pain in the body, mind, or heart, a death of a loved one, any grief, anxiety, a divorce, a breakup, trauma, unresolved emotions, and any of the many situations that can cause us pain and you’d like to feel more peace and love.

PRENATAL

Our prenatal classes give moms-to-be a safe place to balance self-care, practice acceptance of their current bodies & situations, & to experience power in their womanhood! We focus on breath, body/mind connection, presence, relaxation, postures and flows that can be used well into the birthing process!

MEDITATION

Meditation brings us back “home” to ourselves. When we connect more deeply with ourselves, we connect more deeply with others. When we find more love and acceptance for ourselves, we find more love and acceptance for others. The practice of meditation is often misunderstood and met with a lot of rules. Learn what meditation is/isn’t and begin a practice that suits YOU! Never meditated? We have a program for you. Meditated and want to get into a more consistent practice? We have a program for you.

YIN YOGA

Yin Yoga is an ancient Chinese practice that allows you to rest into stretches to get deep into the muscle/fascia to find release.  It is derived from the same healing systems such as acupuncture and Tai Qi and is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) so it works intensively with meridians and acupressure points to target organs, tissues, and joints.

"The Yoga Nook is great. I love learning from all the different teachers. They offer different kinds of yoga so every body can do it. There is no pressure or competition. You only do what you can do. From the moment I walk into the studio, I feel less stressed. Thank you so much to the owners for opening this in our community, the teachers, the guests, the students, & the vendors that come to the events."
